International students planning to study in Malaysia need to apply for a Student Pass, which serves as a student visa. The process typically begins once you have received an offer letter from a Malaysian educational institution. The institution will usually apply for the Student Pass on behalf of the student through the Education Malaysia Global Services (EMGS) system.

To support your Student Pass application, you will need to provide the following documents:

  • A letter of acceptance from the Malaysian educational institution confirming your enrolment in a full-time course.

  • Evidence of sufficient funds to cover your tuition fees and living expenses for the duration of your stay.

  • A medical health examination report from a recognized panel of doctors or any registered clinic in your home country.

  • A valid passport with at least 18 months remaining until expiration.

  • Recent passport-sized photographs.

The fee for the Student Pass application includes a processing fee, visa fee, and the i-Kad fee, which altogether can range from RM 1,000 to RM 2,000 (approximately USD 240 to USD 480), depending on your country of origin and the length of your course.

Upon arrival in Malaysia, students are required to undergo a post-arrival medical screening at a registered clinic or medical centre in Malaysia. Additionally, international students must attend a briefing and registration session with the Immigration Department of Malaysia to complete the process.

Eligibility Criteria to Study in Malaysia for Indian Students:

English Language Requirement

Most courses in universities in Malaysia are conducted in English, so you need to show your English language competency is good enough for you to be able to participate fully in your course. This means that proficiency in English is a prerequisite for admission.

When you apply for a Visa Approval Letter (VAL) you must demonstrate that you have an acceptable level of English language proficiency, and upload the certificate as part of your application. The English Language tests which are accepted for Student Pass Application are:
